Somewhere Over The Rainbow

November 2017

PetroVisual supports a number of ways to determine colors for graph and map symbols:

Assign a color: Set all of my symbols blue.
Select a color gradient: Select symbol colors between green and yellow to indicate the size of my oil reserves.
Define color rules: Use red for my gas well symbols and use green for my oil well symbols.

And now, we offer a new color tool: Rainbow gradients!

Rainbow gradients assign colors of the rainbow using a range of values in a data field. For example, if you select a rainbow gradient for your gas reserves, your symbols with smallest reserves will be blue and the colors will transition to green, yellow, orange, and red as the reserve values increase.

Rainbow gradients are available with:

Scatter Plot Symbols
Probit Graph Symbols
Map Symbols
Map Bubbles

PetroVisual gives you the colors of the rainbow - with a single mouse click!

Data Filters

Data Filters Part II

June 2017

Work continues on the new data filters functionality. We have now added data filters to scatter plots, probit graphs, pie charts, funnel charts, bar charts, maps, and heat maps. After testing and gathering feedback from our beta testers, we should be on track to release a new build of PetroVisual next month. Stay tuned!

Data Filters = Analytic Goodness

May 2017

When you create query filters and then run a query in PetroVisual, you retrieve the data from your project that matches your query criteria. It's a simple process, but the results are powerful: you have precise control over the data you want to analyze.

To extend this workflow, we are now adding data filters to individual data visualizations!

Data filters allow each visualization to display a subset of records from your query results:

Do you only want to see wells with large reserves on your map? Add a data filter to the map.
Do you want to compare well performance across two counties on a bar chart? Add a data filter to the bar chart.
Do you only want to see data in your scatter plot where well depth is greater than 8,000 feet? Add a data filter to the scatter plot.

Data filters can be added for any data field in the data set, and multiple filters can be defined for each visualization.

We think you will agree that data filters are a great addition to the PetroVisual toolbox!

Happy Holidays!

December 2016

Happy holidays to all of our customers, friends, and business associates!

2016 was another great year for PetroVisual, and we can't wait to see what 2017 will bring.

Keep your eye on this news page for future exciting announcements!

Probit Graphs

September 2015

This month, we are excited to announce a new visualization tool:

Probit Graphs!

Allow me to speak like an engineer for a moment:

Probit Graphs allow the user to display any numeric data value in a normal or lognormal scale related to the probabilistic X scale for all the included data points. The Probit Graph supports multiple data sets, presents the user with a linear fit of each data stream, and displays the associated curve values like P10, P50, and P90. Probit Graphs also allow the user to change symbol shape, size and color to identify other trends in the data set.

And, like all of the data visualizations in PetroVisual, Probit graphs can be created with a couple of mouse clicks. Who says you can't have power and simplicity?

PetroVisual Gets A Facelift

August 2015

In our never-ending quest to maximize screen real estate, we are streamlining all of our visualization tools to better showcase your data. Settings panels that used to float on top of our maps, charts, and grids are now moving to consolidated toolbars. Likewise, all of our toolbars are being reworked to offer consistent graphics, labels, and button order.

The end result? More screen space for your data visualizations and more consistency for your user interface.

We like the word "more" - and we hope our customers do too!

PetroVisual v2.29 Released

July 2015

Another month, another PetroVisual release! Following close on the heels of our June release, PetroVisual v2.29 is now available.

Here are the cool new features:

PHDWin: Coming Soon to a PetroVisual Near You

March 2015

Since its introduction in 1996, the PHDWin economics software has enjoyed tremendous popularity in the marketplace. PHDWin has a large and passionate user base, and PHDWin projects contain a wealth of oil and gas data. We know good software when we see it, and adding PHDWin to PetroVisual was an easy decision.

Special thanks to Dave Pacinda, President of TRC Consultants, and Katherine Tronolone, Marketing Manager, for their enthusiasm about PetroVisual!

Lions And Tigers And OGRE. Oh My!

February 2015

Founded in 1978, OGRE Systems is one of the oldest and most respected economics software companies in the industry. We are pleased to announce that the next version of PetroVisual will automatically connect to OGRE projects, giving our customers rich query and visualization tools for their OGRE data. We also want to thank Damien Hutchins, Vice President of Sales at OGRE Systems, for his committed support of PetroVisual.

OGRE is the first of many new data sources that we plan to connect in PetroVisual. Keep watching this news page as we make PetroVisual the indispensable tool for analyzing all of your oil and gas data.

PetroVisual Unleashed!

January 2015

For more than two years, PetroVisual has connected ARIES users to their data.

And now, everything is about to change.

Today, we are announcing a major enhancement to the PetroVisual platform. We are redesigning the software to support data sources outside of ARIES, including your Access, SQL Server, and Oracle databases.

The idea is simple: one piece of software that works with all of your oil and gas data assets.

Stay tuned as we release more details about this exciting new chapter in PetroVisual development.

Query Manager

December 2014

The new interface that we introduced last month prompted us to rethink how queries are organized. To improve on the original query list in the navigation tree, we have designed a new query screen where you can create, manage, and run your queries:

New query grid. View your queries in a hierarchical grid with columns that display important query details.
Improved query organization. Organize your queries by name, data source, data view, or last run date.
Import and export. Import and export your queries with convenient buttons docked below the query grid.
Consolidated tools. All of your tools to add, edit, delete, and run queries are available in one place.

In other news, PetroVisual is two years old. Happy birthday to us!

Query Manager

User Interface Improvements

November 2014

The PetroVisual navigation tree serves as the control panel to access your queries and settings. The only downside to the navigation tree? It takes up valuable space on the screen that is better utilized for your maps, graphs, and pivot tables. To solve this problem, we have rotated the navigation tree to a simple horizontal menu bar across the top of PetroVisual's main window. The layout and options are still the same, but now your pixels are free for more important things, like displaying our cool new tile maps!

Same great taste. Just less filling.

Tile Maps

October 2014

It's time to announce another HUGE new feature for PetroVisual: tile maps!

Similar in functionality to Google and Bing maps, the new PetroVisual tile map engine has world-wide coverage and improved graphics. We will initially provide detailed map data in the United States and southern Canada, and we plan to add map data to other countries based on customer feedback.

Check out the screen captures below for a preview of our exciting new map technology!

Meet George Jetson

July 2014

For decades, people have been predicting that cars will fly, but outside of The Jetsons, the idea of a hover car never seems to materialize. In contrast, PetroVisual is doing its part to advance the science of hovering - our map now supports fully configurable mouse hover text!

Create up to five different lines of text, including user-entered text and database values, and this text will hover on the map as you mouse over your wells.

Mouse hover text may not be as cool as hover cars, but at least our technology is something you can use today!

Peak Rate Type Curves

April 2014

We make it a top priority to listen to our users, and peak rate type curves are officially the most often requested feature that people want to see in PetroVisual. The idea is simple: scan production data for a number of months to locate the highest rate, and then create type curves using the date of that highest rate.

PetroVisual offers best-of-industry tools for building type curves. Because of our great user feedback, PetroVisual type curves are now even better.

Going forward, our goal is simple: relentless improvement of the PetroVisual platform to provide powerful and easy access to your oil and gas data.

Stick around - we're just getting started!

Summary Queries

November 2013

Sometimes, you just need a quick answer.

No details, just the facts:

How much oil production do I have by county by year?
What is my average economic life by field?
How much should I bet when trying to draw an inside straight?

We are working on a new feature - called summary queries - that retrieves only the data results that you need. You can still create all of our word-class visualizations with summary query results, but you no longer need to slog through thousands of records to get answers.

Summary queries: just another tool to give you monster control over your oil and gas data.

New Bar Chart

November 2013

The bar chart is getting an updated user interface that makes it easier on the eyes and easier to use. Sleek floating panels neatly organize the bar chart settings. Rename, duplicate, and delete options are now conveniently available. Multi-line dynamic titles and extensive color options round out the upgrades to our bar chart tool.

Share (verb): To use or enjoy something with others.

October 2013

We have just finished a major addition to our licensing model:

Shared licenses!

Shared licenses allow multiple users to access PetroVisual using a pool of available licenses. For example, your company can purchase 5 shared licenses and create 20 user accounts, allowing any 5 of the 20 users to run PetroVisual at the same time.

Flexible and efficient, shared licenses are a great way to let everyone in your company benefit from PetroVisual's powerful capabilities.
